Concession Schedule

Basketball season is nearly here. Band Boosters operate the concessions at all boys and girls home basketball games, and we need your help! There are 25 opportunities for you to volunteer and put $$$$ into your students band account!

Here’s how it works. Volunteer for any of the 25 game dates between mid-November and March. Most of them are on Friday or Saturday nights but there are a few weeknight and Saturday afternoon dates. Four people are needed for each girls game and eight people for each boys game.

If you work from 4:30 til done, $30 will be deposited into your students account. If you work from 5:30 til done, $20 will be deposited into your students account.

Wear your “We’re with the Band” t-shirt if you got one at the Fly-In, if not we will provide you with one. For those of you who are driving your student to the game for pep-band, why fight the traffic and waste the gas? Stay and work the concession stand, put some cash into their account and see what a great group of kids they are a part of.
Just drop a note to me at marpha@live.com and we'll get you scheduled!

Purdue pics are up. Here's the link

Purdue Trip- Thoughts from the Band

I enjoyed the Purdue trip. I enjoyed watching the Purdue marching band. I also liked seeing other bands and comparing their composition to ours. I noticed most had large low brass sections…..Heath Barkdull

I thought the trip was a great experience…The half-time show was great. It really didn’t make you nervous because there were over 20 different schools out there. Hitting the beach ball was fun too…..Colin Lewis

Three fun things that happened were: being in one big band, getting to see a college band play, and not being the only sousaphone. It was amazing to hear them while they were dancing……Cameron Ester-Zubowski

I interviewed Tim LeMaster and Tyler Ensor. Tim liked the free food, Tyler liked listening to the Purdue band play and how they made the songs sound interesting…Greg Montag

I felt like as a team we were joining to make one great band..I had a wonderful day and I hope we do this again next year….Joey Voght

You could even say that “we had a miracle” just for the way that we sounded together….Michael Lett

Band Day was overall a fun time that I really enjoyed. At first I was dreading the entire thing. I mean, what kid wants to get up at 4:00am and go march all day?...Dallas Elliott

There were a lot of positive things that came from Purdue Band Day. We got to see other bands and see how they go about their style and how good they sound. Another positive thing is we got to see how an actual college band practices and rehearses. Another positive thing is that we got to see new people and make long lasting friendships in that short amount of time. One thing to change would be nothing. I liked it just the way it was and would go back anytime…Kia Artis

I had a great time at the Purdue Band Day. I loved seeing all the bands. I have never seen so many people able to fit on a football field. The songs we played sounded great with all the bands playing. Seeing how all the other bands operate. The Purdue band looked and sounded amazing. That is the largest band I have ever been in the presence of. The football game was pretty exciting too. There was excitement all the way down to the last minute. The only thing I would change is strictness on the bus because some people were getting annoying….Jeffrey Henline

Purdue Band Day would have been a great experience for me. Even though I didn’t go, people made me feel like I wanted to go. It would have been a cool experience to play with other saxophones, since I play alto-sax. Also, I would have had a blast playing with a lot of other highschools. Playing with other highschools would have let me see how much better or worse other schools are compared to us. The only thing I wouldn’t have liked would have to be getting up early, I’m not a morning person….Cyle Smith

I thought the Purdue Band was absolutely amazing. The day was very fun and I hope we do it again next year. I think we sounded and looked great…Clark Brinkley

I think Purdue Band Day was a good experience for everyone in the band. We had a good time at the football game and hanging out with our friends, but I think that we learned a lot as well. We saw what happens when every person in the band takes responsibility and puts effort and time into what they do. I myself, as a drum major learned what I need to do to compete with other musicians. I loved how coordinated the band was in their movements and performance. We got to hear what a well mixed marching band sounds like and got ideas for our own performance. I think we should do this kind of thing more often because we learn how to better our playing and what other schools are doing…Danielle Fields

Even though I am not really into marching that much, I would have enjoyed just hanging out. The marching part did not sound too bad and I think I probably would have enjoyed it afterwards…Nick Martens

On Purdue Band day the Marion High School Marching Band left at 5:00am for the Purdue football game. I interviewed Taylor Cromas, one of the alto saxophonists in the band, “So Taylor, what were some exciting and fun events you experienced at Purdue Band Day?” “Well, Purdue Band day was a lot of fun! Some positive points included just how great our band got along and how smooth the day went. It was amazing seeing the Purdue band march and play while dancing and putting on a great show! We saw a huge bass drum that took four people to maneuver! People were doing flips off of it! It was a great experience overall, and Purdue even won the football game to add a final touch to the great day!”...Amanda Wolfe

I liked how they (Purdue) made that train at the beginning and made it look like the train was moving…I also liked how part of the band came and played right in front of us. I thought we sounded great….Once the game was over I went straight to the bus and fell asleep. I was so tired….Amy Bricker

I liked being able to watch the Purdue band practice after we were all done practicing. I liked the way the big bass drum people were flipping off and running around with it. I also enjoyed walking over to the dome thing and watching them perform, the way they danced and played around…Taylor Cromas

I thought the Purdue band was amazing. I was watching the cymbal players and they were doing some amazing things with those cymbals. I hope I can do that some day….DJ Fultz

The way I hear about this totally awesome day is that I missed our best band extracurricular event ever. I heard that there were twenty-seven other bands and that we were a big mass of color and it was cool….Seth Lloyd

Pudue Band Day was a special day to me and everyone else. It made me feel good because I knew that I was doing something in my life that was important. Purdue Band Day also made me think about where I would like to go to school in three years….Justin Williams

Kick up the dust and give a shout,

Purdue’s band is up and about.

Performance time,

Metal swings in time.

All to think;

“Why aren’t we?”

Dance along?

Look like we’re having fun?

Still come in as one?

What do I think?

Impressed.

And now we join them.

No, we don’t dance.

We outnumber them.

But they outclass us.

Same notes, same songs, same rhythms.

But what a difference.

Liars of lyers, versus smooth verses?

And still they’re better.

We stand still, so as not to lose our place on paper,

They don’t need to.

Maybe it’s me. Maybe I just can’t stay still.

Still want to be there.

Not here in the corner. Not the side.

In the middle.

Right with them.

I want to be up there..... Kaity Jackson

Purdue Band Day is definitely a trip worth taking next year. The Purdue band was an excellent role model for how a band should be. They were excited and played awesome songs and had fun doing it. They made me want our band to be better…The songs we played together sounded really cool….Most of the bands had uniforms. This made the show look really cool because there were a lot of school colors on the field at the same time….Matt Grindle

I enjoyed Band day at Purdue. I thought it was a great experience. It was nice to see and hear older, more experienced people play instruments just like us. I thought our band sounded good. We were exceptional. I think that when we go next year people will be more excited and prepared for the day’s events. We were good this year, but we could improve and be amazing next year. In the end, I am glad we went to Purdue Band Day. It was very inspirational to see the Purdue band play. I thought it was amazing that these college students play and perform so well. It was also cool that they do it in their spare time and that they enjoy playing with the other band members. I am glad we went…Jackie Nelson
